JOB DESCRIPTION – Technical Game Engine Support Engineer
Location - San Diego, CA (92121)
Type – Contract
Duration – 6 months
Rate - $50/hr
We are seeking a Game Engine Support Engineer to join an Online Technology Group which provides a networking solution for the Playstation (PS2, PS3 and PSP) gaming platforms. The networking architecture supports both client-server and peer-to-peer models.
The Game Engine Support Engineer works directly with the software support infrastructure and first party developers to ensure a highly available, robust, and enjoyable online experience.
The ideal candidate will have a B.S. in Computer Science or related degree, and 3-5 years experience in software development/support. The ideal candidate will have experience in supporting an online technology in a live, production caliber environment. The position requires excellent written and oral communication skills in order to successfully interface with internal developers, external studio developers, producers, Product Development IT, and Quality Assurance personnel.
Overall, the position of Game Engine Support Engineer is expected to partner with the organization to:
1. Troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively in the live production games environment.
2. Educate and provide technical and non-technical feedback to the game studios, producers, and internal software support infrastructure.
3. Implement new software, tools, and processes to improve software manageability and support moving forward.
REQUIRED SKILLS – The following describes skills necessary to excel in this role:
· PROBLEM SOLVING: Candidate must have a strong inclination towards identifying root causes of problems and exploring resolutions in a timely manner. He/she must be able to gather and analyze information from various resources, and be able to identify and implement software solutions to resolve short-term and long-term problems.
· COMMUNICATION: Candidate must be able to verbally communicate concisely, and convey problem assessments cohesively and persuasively. He or she must be able to respond well to questioning, and provide information to both technical and non-technical personnel. Excellent writing skills are required in order to produce written communication that is clear, informative, and concise.
· TECHNICAL: Proficiency in C/C++, Java, SQL, Unix/Linux, and Web technologies. Candidate must have a good foundation in programming, specifically network/online related. Software design and methodology is a plus.
· INITIATIVE: This role requires the candidate to be on-call to respond to important and critical situations; therefore it is necessary for the candidate to take initiative in problem identification and resolution. Also, he or she must exercise adaptability to new issues, new situations, or even new personnel. In addition, dependability is crucial due to the on-call nature of the role.
DESIRED SKILLS – The follow describes skills which would be nice to have, but not necessary to excel in this role:
· Consumer oriented with a strong passion/interest in online games: Candidate preferably demonstrates an interest in the consumer, and understands the importance of highly available software and online gaming and console gaming (Playstation, Wii, Xbox, Xbox360, PC, etc). Also knowledge of 3D packages, such as Maya or 3d Max is a plus.

This position is for a 6 month contract in San Diego. The rate is $50 - $55 / hour with time and a half for overtime.
